Serbia has about 360 recorded bird species, among which some 240 species breed. Among the breeding birds, about 100 (or about 40% of them) species of European conservation concern (SPECs), which include five species of global conservation concern (Ferruginous Duck, Eastern Imperial Eagle, Lesser Kestrel, Great Bustard and Corn Crake).
As Serbia is not a large country and the infrastructure is fairly well developed, it is possible to explore it in about dozen days and, with some advance planning and guidance from the local experts, build up a list of more than 150 species. |
